While the United States has been responsible for many great economic innovations in the past few decades, trends in our education system are far from favorable. Academic standards have been in freefall since the 1970s and university students now have a much lower IQ.
This new trend could have a devastating impact on the US economy’s innovation potential and the career trajectories of new college graduates. Standards in universities are declining and students have to take on much more debt, which makes it that much harder for students to succeed after graduation.
There are many culprits to blame for this transition, and the solution likely involves overhauling many entities, such as the Department of Education, which have failed the American population. Students will likely continue to suffer until there are significant changes that take place in US higher education.
The Decline in US Education Standards
Education standards have been in freefall in the United States for many years. While American students used to rank among the top countries globally in the 1950s, we have now fallen behind many other countries despite being a developed country that spends a lot of money on education. The results could be devastating for the country, as university students now have a much lower average IQ, and are subsequently exposed to a less rigorous environment in university settings.
IQs Have Declined
Undergraduate IQs have fallen drastically in the past few decades, so much so, that undergraduate students’ IQs are only slightly higher than the country’s average IQ of 98. Rob Henderson shared a recent article from Real Clear Science which showed that college students’ average IQ has fallen by around 17 points. The United States has been intellectually trounced by other countries globally like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Finland, and Germany to name a few.
Our country is in trouble. The government, the media, and the education system are all controlled by a small number of people who don’t have our best interests at heart.
